Mobile Care Unit Brings STD Testing Out To Public

Novus ACS is finalizing the launch of it a mobile care unit that ensures everybody can have access to free HIV and STD testing. The 20-foot medical mobile unit is set to arrive at the LGBTQ resort “The Woods Campground” in Lehighton, Carbon County, and will travel throughout the state of Pennsylvania.

Novus ACS Public Relations/Marketing Manager Benny Vukaj said the idea was created to bring testing and treatment to the community, especially for those who are unable to come to them.

The mobile unit will have the same services as the clinic does, such as free STD and HIV testing along with the “Pre” pill to prevent HIV. According to Vukaj, this will be available to people with or without insurance.

Vukaj said the mobile unit is a great tool for anybody who lacks the transportation to actually go to the clinic.

Novus is currently working on finding the different places the mobile unit will go and park.

Vukaj said they would like to be a part of any organization or event with a population that could use its services.

The agency got its beginnings in Bethlehem of Northampton County.

After the renovation of the former Planned Parenthood adjacent to the Courthouse Square, the agency began operations in Stroudsburg. Since opening, there have been 900 people come through – many in the LGBTQ community or low-income residents.

Vukaj said the feedback about the mobile care unit has been great.
